Wirtshaus German Restaurant & Beer Garden, nestled on 345 N La Brea Ave in Los Angeles, offers an authentic taste of Germany right in the heart of the city. This charming German restaurant and beer garden presents a delightful blend of traditional Bavarian fare with a modern gastropub twist, making it a must-visit destination for lovers of European cuisine and craft beers alike.
Step inside and you’ll be immediately embraced by the cozy yet lively ambiance, where warm wood accents and tasteful German décor create an inviting atmosphere that’s perfect for both convivial gatherings and intimate meals. Whether you’re settling in for brunch, an evening feast, or casual drinks at the bar, Wirtshaus provides an experience steeped in conviviality and comfort.
The menu is a treasure trove of authentic German delicacies and creative takes on classic dishes. Start your culinary journey with the freshly baked Bavarian Pretzel, served with housemade sweet mustard and the creamy, rich "Obatzda" cheese spread—a textural delight that’s both tangy and luscious. Fans of hearty flavors will revel in the Original Sausage Platter, featuring a selection of sausages like the smoky Wildschwein Wurst (wild boar sausage) and the flavorful Käsekrainer. Each sausage bursts with robust, meaty goodness that pairs exquisitely with the seasonal Oktoberfest Beer or the adventurous Autobahn Beer Flight, allowing you to savor a spectrum of traditional German brews.
For those seeking something comforting yet unique, the Käsespatzle is a standout: homemade spaetzle lovingly tossed in a velvety cheese sauce, optionally enhanced with crisp bacon, creating a dish that is indulgent but balanced, far from your typical mac 'n cheese. The Beef Goulash with homemade spätzle offers tender, slow-cooked beef enveloped in a rich, aromatic sauce—perfectly satisfying on a cool LA evening.
Vegetarian and vegan diners are well-catered for with clear menu labels and brilliant choices like the Vegan Schnitzel, showcasing that classic schnitzel crunch and flavor without compromise. Don't miss the Potato Pancakes, golden and crisp, topped with mascarpone and apple sauce for a sweet-savory contrast that sends your taste buds soaring.
Wirtshaus is also praised for its welcoming atmosphere and attentive staff. As one guest, Elizabeth Lascheid, shared, despite the challenge with parking in the bustling La Brea area, the cozy, German-inspired setting and extensive beer selection make the visit worthwhile. The friendly bartenders and live music—like the soulful performances by resident musician Vladimir—add layers of warmth and authenticity to your dining experience. Another loyal customer, Dina Mild, affectionately describes her nearly weekly visits and the heartfelt connection she’s formed with the place, highlighting the genuine hospitality and the exceptional food quality.
Family-friendly and lively, Wirtshaus also shines during special occasions such as Oktoberfest, where celebratory vibes and delicious seasonal beers come together for unforgettable festivities. As Elizabeth Clark enthusiastically notes, the soft, bouncy pretzels and the indulgent schnitzels paired with spicy sausages make for an “insanely delicious” experience that perfectly captures the spirit of German communal dining.
Whether you’re a beer aficionado, a fan of hearty European fare, or someone looking to explore authentic German flavors in an inviting setting, Wirtshaus German Restaurant & Beer Garden promises a richly satisfying, sensory-loaded journey. It’s a place where bold flavors, impeccable service, and warm atmosphere come together beautifully—an essential stop for both locals and visitors craving a genuine taste of Germany in Los Angeles.

We ordered the exotic Wurstplatte, Pretzel and their IPA beer on tap. Good shareables and plenty of food for two.
Wirtshaus German Restaurant & Beer Garden is on La Brea and parking can be hard, but you will find something. The place itself is ever so cute with German decor and comfortable seating. It can get crowded. I am not sure if they take reservations. We go on off hours and never have a problem. If you like beer they have an amazing selection and there is fun to be had at the bar. Everyone is very nice. We go for the food. It is great. We love their Jager Schnitzel, which is classic Schnitzel topped with wild mushroom sauce. It is so great. You will think you are in Germany. We also love their Chicken Schnitzel which is breaded. The chicken is so good. They have wonderful sausages and yummy pretzels. The place is kept clean and the service is super so have fun.
I loved the good amount of vegan dishes clearly labeled on the menu. The schnitzel was amazing, just perfect and ausgezeichnet! I also love their lentil soup, sausages, and fries. Of course the beer is good too, friendly staff!
Excuse me? I’ve just realised that I’ve been coming here for two years and never left a review. What a shame! If you want a unique German pub that is actually owned by a German, with amazing food, a large collection of beer, friendly bartenders, the one and only musician Vladimir, you should give it a visit. I love this place with all my heart, we used to come here almost every Friday and the only reason we don’t now is because we moved further. They host Stein-holding competitions and I even took the third place once! Great place with a soul. 10/10
Oktoberfest well spent. I have been meaning to visit this place and so glad I finally did. Family friendly vibe with live music for th holiday. We ordered at the bar and service was friendly and attentive. The pretzel was soft and the perfect bouncy texture with delicious dips. We ordered the pretzel schnitzel, original wurstplatte. Both insanely delicious. The Spicy sausage dipped in the sweet sauce was eye rolling good. Vegan options available. Priced well and a must visit for some great German atmosphere.
It took a bit to have someone take our order, but that was quickly forgotten when the delicious food arrived! Oktoberfest Paulaner, käsespätzle with bacon (!) (German mac n cheese, basically), pork curry wurst, chicken sausage with sauerkraut & mashed potatoes! The table was silent as we ate every bit of delicious food in front of us. Definitely go hungry.
Best sausages and German draft beer in town. Lifehack - you can buy only sausages, $7 each, served with pickles and 3 different mustard. Best for me is - kaiserkrayner sausagewith ementaler cheese Top of the top! Meal under $20, best prices every day! Highly recommended!
